Vamakali - The one who stamped Shiva

Vamakali is typically shown with her left foot stamping violently on Shiva's chest., this depiction of Shiva is refered in many cultures as Shava the corpse. Vamakali is usually worshipped by non-householders who undertake austere rituals. The pose of Kali shows the conclusion of an episode in which Kali uncontrollably rampaging after destroying many demons and consuming them in blood and flesh. All the gods fearing that Kali would not stop until she destroyed the world, run to Shiva to pacify her, but all his attempts failed at last he could only think of one way to pacify her. He laid down on the battlefield under her fierce stampede so that she would have to step on him.
